Self-care & Self-compassion

Saturday Apr 01, 2023

Saturday Apr 01, 2023

When I think of self-care, I initially think of fancy wine-nights with my girls while we chat, do facemasks, and snack on a charcuterie board. And there's nothing wrong with that! That's totally a form of self-care. But, there are a lot of other things that contribute to self-care, too--some that are fun, and some that are a little more tough but that benefit us in the long run. We cover all these ideas in this episode and also talk about how to implement self-care and self-compassion into our routine so that they're not reactive fix-it-actions when we feel burnt out. After all, when we're burnt out or stressed, we default to our routines and habits. Let's make sure they're good ones.

You guys have submitted a variety of questions through my social media and my website, so this episode is dedicated to going through a lot of them! These questions are all great and ALL over the place--from "when is it okay to date?" to "how do I get over fake friends?" to "how do I handle peer pressure?", I'm getting really real with y'all. And if there's a question you think of while listening to this that you want me to tackle, let me know!

2 of my best friends agreed to be on the podcast this week to get really real with you guys about friendships and dating. Here are some of the things that we chat about: making friends, dealing with girls who betray you, navigating rumors and conflict, your "firsts," what to look for when dating a guy, sexting, and dealing with bullies...as well as some general life advice. We've been there--and pretty recently--so we're still very in-the-know, but we've also gathered some wisdom in our years. Tune in now for the full scoop!

This week's episode is about how we deal with the desire to control our lives and the things that happen to us. As we grow up, we learn that sometimes we can do everything "right" and still not get what we want. So what do we do? How do we cope with this feeling of lacking control? Well, for starters, we realize that control is something we'll never achieve...but we don't need it because we have something even better. Tune in to find out what!

It’s Not Your Job To...

Saturday Feb 25, 2023

Saturday Feb 25, 2023

This week, we're talking about some of the pressure girls feel, especially as it relates to the people around them. If you're feeling bogged down or exhausted trying to live up to other people's expectations/hopes/aspirations or society's ideals and pressures, this one's for you!

We're the ones who are most in-tune to our bodies and our hearts (at least, we should be), so we're also the best judges of when we need external help. This episode breaks down how to ask for help, who we should be asking, and what kind of response we should be expecting. We'll also talk about this in the light of asking for and communicating what you need in relation to friends, boyfriends, parents, siblings, etc.

The enneagram took the world by storm a few years ago, and suddenly it was being used in friend groups, schools, clubs, leadership groups, and so on. But some of y'all may have been too young, or maybe you didn't see the hype. Enneagram coach and author, Jackie Brewster, is joining Truth for Your Teens today to share what it is, how to use it, and why it's such a powerful tool for us to use in understanding ourselves, friendships, relationships and more.Enneagram with JBEnneagram EssentialsThe Enneagram Symbol

My friends! It's been a hot minute, but the podcast is back and here to stay. I've had a number of new followers, mentees, and connections as well as some expansion of Truth for Your Teens/my brand, so this episode is dedicated to explaining all of that, getting y'all up-to-speed on what you can expect going forward, and I also share the origin story of the podcast. Thank you SO much for tuning in (and hitting "subscribe"/giving a rating, if you feel called)!

"Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” -Matthew 6:34
"I'm so busy." "Things are crazy." "I'm. so. stressed." How many times (a day??) have each of us said these words? If we're being honest, I've said these at least 20 times in the last week and a half. Here's the good news: stress isn't inherently a bad thing! The less-than-good news? If we don't take time to properly decompress, we can develop chronic/long-term stress...which brings a whole slew of problems. A little more less-than-good news: we can never eliminate stress completely. But (good news!), we can learn to manage it. Tune in to learn about the science behind stress, what happens to our body, and ways to deal with it!

"And suddenly you know: It's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” -Meister Eckhart
We're kicking off Season 3 by talking about the exciting/nerve-racking/anxiety-inducing/fun event of going back to school. Summer's wrapping up (sigh), but fall nights with football and sweatshirts are right on its heels (thank God). Whether you love school or dread going back, the advice in this episode will help you navigate the first day, first week, and even the whole year. I've also put together a checklist of important things to do/have and some tips and tricks I've learned along the way. Download it through my website alexosredker.life/t4yt or take a screenshot of it from my social media @Alex.Osredker11!
